Customers are increasingly careful about which brands they buy from. The internet means there’s lots more choice. Businesses need all they help they can get to stand out from the crowd and leave their competitors far behind.
Here’s why I think social media could be a great way to get your brand seen and heard…
1. It’s a fantastic way to build awareness
To become your customers, people need to know about your business.
Social media boosts your visibility among potential customers. And it’s free to create a business profile on all the major social networks, so you have nothing to lose.
We’ve all heard about posts ‘going viral’ on social media, meaning thousands of people end up seeing a video, post or meme. But even a few people liking, commenting on and sharing your content can make a difference, with their friends and followers seeing what they’ve done.
2. It’s great for connecting with your customers
People love to hear back from their favourite brands. Social media can be a great way to do that.
A few of my favourite ideas include:
- using Instagram Stories to give a sneak-preview of a new product, or a behind-the-scenes tour of your office
- hosting a Facebook Live Q&A session
- running a giveaway on Instagram
- asking your followers what they’d like you to blog about, via Instagram Stories.
Be warned: if you ask people to put forward questions, you just need to be ready to respond to them!
3. It’s a fab way to show how real your brand is
Like I say in my About me, I love brands that want to talk to and engage with me as a person, not a credit card. Your brand isn’t flat or grey – it has spirit and life and is represented by real, authentic people.
Social media is a great way to do just that – to show your brand’s personality and bring your values to life. (Just make sure you’re clear about your brand values and tone of voice.)
4. It’s an amazing way to demonstrate your expertise
Chances are, potential customers will do a quick search to browse your website and social media before buying from you. Use social media to make sure their first impression is a positive one, showing what your brand can do for your customers, how it can solve their problems or make their lives better.
You could do a product demo on an Instagram Live or encourage previous customers to leave reviews on your Facebook page.
This kind of content will help give your customers confidence in your brand, and help turn potential customers into actual customers.
5. It’s incredibly cost-effective
Social media advertising can be amazingly cost-effective. But you do need to have a very clear idea of who you want to reach and why.
I’m not saying that you need to be on every social media platform there is. You need to be where your customers are.
That’s why it’s crucial to fully understand your customers – where they live, how old they are, are they male or female, where else they shop, and which social networks they use.
Once you’ve done that, the social media world is your oyster..!
